The future of the Heat Pump – a Hot Topic or an Important Component of the Energy Transition?

The smarter E Podcast Episode 221 | June 12, 2025 | Language: English

Rarely has anything been so hotly debated in politics and society as the heat pump. The fact is, however, that anyone who has a new gas heating system installed now is relying on an expensive, obsolete model. The new German government has committed to the coalition agreement to stick to the ETS2 for buildings and transport (European Emissions Trading System 2). But is the heat pump the more favourable and future-proof choice? Is it even the only choice?

We discuss this today with Dr Richard Lucht from Thermondo.

The smarter E podcast is all about the current trends and developments in a renewable, decentralized and digital energy industry. Our host welcomes and interviews personalities who shape our industry and drive developments forward. A new episode is published bi-weekly on Thursdays.
