Tax Changes for Solar Systems

For photovoltaic systems, the tax rate in the sales tax is to fall to zero from January 2023. In addition, the legislator is planning further tax simplifications for operators of solar systems, including a tax exemption in income tax.

We provide an overview of the changes and concrete tips on what specialist companies must now consider when processing orders and issuing invoices so that no problem cases arise and customers can take advantage of the best tax structuring options.

Thomas Seltmann, Consultant Solar Technology and Storage, BSW-Solar

As a consultant for solar technology and storage at the German Solar Industry Association, Thomas Seltmann has been working on the further development of technical regulations and political framework conditions for photovoltaics in Germany since March 2022. Before that, he was a consultant for photovoltaics and prosumers at the consumer advice centre in North Rhine-Westphalia and has held various positions in the solar industry for around thirty years. He is a lecturer, book author and writes guidebook texts on photovoltaic tax topics.
