The relevance of renewable energies is steadily increasing worldwide. According to the latest World Energy Outlook from the International Energy Agency (IEA), electricity demand is expected to rise rapidly by 2050, driven in part by electric vehicles, heat pumps, and data centers. By 2030, renewable energy sources could cover more than half of the global electricity demand.

According to a report by REN21, an association of the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUV), renewable energies already covered 30 percent of the global electricity demand in 2023, with 15 percent coming from photovoltaics and wind power.

However, this progress has revealed a fundamental problem: the storage and distribution infrastructure does not match production. The IEA also emphasizes that significant investments in the expansion of power grids and storage technologies are necessary for a successful energy transition. Despite the impressive growth in renewable energy production, there is still a lack of sufficient infrastructure for storing and distributing energy. This imbalance leads to unused energy and presents a challenge for the future of the energy transition.

Companies worldwide are already offering solutions for storage technologies across various scales and applications. At ees Europe 2025, both major market leaders and numerous start-ups will showcase their latest innovations in the storage and battery industry. You can find a deeper insight into the market and an impression of this year's exhibitors in the current issue of the ees Europe exhibition newspaper.
