Australia Climate Council Launches Clean Jobs Plan

Industry News – Tuesday, July 21, 2020

76,000 new jobs in the renewable energy sector could help rebuild the economy impacted by the corona pandemics and tackle climate change at the same time, analyses the ACC. Australia was hit exceptionally hard by bushfires in 2020, increasing the awareness for the consequences of degraded ecosystems and rising temperatures.

With support from the economic advisory AlphaBeta, the ACC identifies 12 policy opportunities to kick-start economic growth while also acknowledging regions and occupations hit hardest by the challenges. The predicted jobs include 15,000 jobs for the installation of utility-scale renewable energy, 12,000 jobs in the restoration of the ecosystem, 12,000 jobs in public and active transport construction and 37,000 jobs in other related projects, all deemed “shovel-ready”, requiring minimal training.
