Bidirectional charging has been discussed for years as one of the key technologies connecting electric mobility with the energy system. But the conversation is changing: it is no longer only about technical feasibility and pilot projects.
Automotive manufacturers, energy companies and technology providers are increasingly working on concrete products, services and business models around Vehicle-to-Home, Vehicle-to-Building and Vehicle-to-Grid.
In this Power2Drive webinar, experts from BMW, Elli - A Brand of Volkswagen Group and The Mobility House will discuss the current state of the market together with futurist Lars Thomsen.
The focus will be on real-world projects and experiences, customer value, emerging business models and the question of what is still needed to bring bidirectional charging to scale.
During the webinar participants can submit their questions to get them answered by the experts in the live Q&A. In addition, both the recording and the speakers' presentations will be made available on our digital content platform The smarter E Digital after the webinar.
Roberto Russo, Future Mobility Consulting
Roberto Russo is an experienced industry voice leading high-level dialogues at the intersection of energy and mobility. With deep roots in both the automotive and energy sectors, he brings stakeholders together to drive innovation and strategy for a smarter, more sustainable future.
Lars Thomsen, Future Matters
Lars Thomsen is one of Europe’s leading futurologists, known for his sharp insights into mobility, energy, and societal change. He will kick off the session by presenting his key thesis on how the next 260 weeks will redefine our energy and mobility infrastructure.
Dr. Matti Sprengeler, The Mobility House
Dr. Matti Sprengeler is Director B2B at The Mobility House Energy, where he leads business development and marketing. Together with his team, he builds partnerships with automotive OEMs and energy utilities across Europe to bring vehicle-to-grid and smart charging to market. His background spans the energy, automotive and solar industries. Previously, he researched vehicle-grid integration at Fraunhofer ISE and held strategy roles in the energy sector, focusing on renewables and e-mobility. He holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems and an M.Sc. in Energy Engineering.
Dr. Jens Berger, Business Developer for Energy Ecosystems, BMW Group
Dr. Jens Berger holds a Ph.D. in physics and has worked at the BMW Group since the development of the BMW i3, the BMW Group’s first series-production electric vehicle. His focus is on charging, the integration of electric vehicles into energy grids and markets, and the development of business models arising from this integration.
As part of the BDL research project, Dr. Berger successfully integrated 20 BMW i3 vehicles into the energy market and power grid using Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology for the first time in Germany. This project marked an important milestone, as the insights gained were the basis for the commercial V2G product developed by BMW and E.ON for BMW Neue Klasse vehicles such as the BMW iX3.
Dr. Berger currently leads the BDL Next research project at BMW. The project aims to enable the mass-market adoption of bidirectional charging in Germany. In doing so, it seeks to establish electric vehicles not only as a means of transport but also as an integral part of modern energy systems.
