 Toshio Hirota graduated Hokkaido University, Japan and started to work at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in 1972. He was engaged in R&D on technologies for EVs, FCVs, and engine vehicles. He was awarded by JSAE (Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan) with the research activity in 1980. He was in charge of development and market introduction of the advanced technologies from 1990. He received his Ph.D. from Hokkaido University on internal combustion engines in 1999. He was engaged in strategic planning for environmental technologies from 2004. He retired from Nissan in 2014. In 2008, he joined Waseda University, Japan. He has been engaged in research on EVs and FCVs. In 2019, He retired guest professor and is continuing his research as an Adjunct researcher of Research Institute of Electric-driven Vehicles, Waseda University. In 2017, he was approved as an operating agent of Task17: PV and Transport, by IEA PVPS. In 2019, he joined NTSEL (National Traffic Safety and Environment Laboratory) as a visiting researcher.
