SPiNE is a Munich-based company developing and operating software solutions for the digitalization of the energy transition since 2024. The focus is on a digital ecosystem built on secure smart meter infrastructure, enabling energy applications for end customers and energy industry participants. SPiNE specifically addresses smart meter rollout, dynamic electricity tariffs, and grid-supportive controllability in the context of § 14a EnWG and § 9 EEG. The goal is to translate complex energy industry processes into standardizable, scalable applications.
The core offering is a modular application platform on which grid-supportive and market-oriented energy applications can be installed, configured, and operated via an Energy App Store architecture. This includes a CLS Suite for implementing control use cases via the CLS channel of the Smart Meter Gateway, an adapter for reading meter data from modern metering devices via the SMGW (HAN API), and a HEMS platform for energy management of assets such as wallboxes, heat pumps, and storage systems. SPiNE offers the EnergyLink One, a local edge gateway installed in the meter cabinet and connected to the Smart Meter Gateway or control box. Applications run partly locally and partly centrally in the secure SPiNE Cloud, and can be installed and configured remotely at any time.
SPiNE also provides a central network management tool for monitoring and operating Smart Meter Gateways (L2M2M protocol).
