In this webinar, we explore the findings of the second report of the "Solarize Africa" series. The webinar illustrates the current state of and new developments on the various African continent’s solar energy markets. Looking ahead, possible future scenarios for specific regions on the African continent will be illustrated. To give credit to the many different applications of solar PV and their economic, environmental and social importance, two focal topics of the webinar are mini-grids and the combination of solar power and water. In summary, the webinar will shed light on the large rise of solar power installations that is starting to build up on the African continent.

During the webinar participants can submit their questions to get them answered by the experts in the live Q&A. In addition, both the recording and the speakers' presentations are made available to all registrants after the webinar.

Gaëtan Masson, Founder and Managing Director, Becquerel Institute

Gaëtan Masson is the Managing Director and co-founder of the Becquerel Institute, a research-oriented consultancy active globally. He is the Operating Agent of the Task 1 of the PV programme of the International Energy Agency (IEA PVPS) and vice-chairman of the European PV technology Platform. With more than 70 countries visited in the last 20 years and 6 languages spoken at various levels, Gaëtan Masson is a global citizen with a clear understanding of cultural specifics and PV markets.

David Wedepohl, Managing Director for International Affairs, BSW-Solar

David Wedepohl is Managing Director for International Affairs at the German Solar Association (BSW-Solar). Wedepohl has headed the "Market and Communication" department at BSW-Solar since the end of 2009 and was the association's press spokesman for many years. Among other things, he is significantly involved in the "Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue” and BSW-Solar’s cooperation with African solar associations. He previously worked at the German Embassy in Washington and at an international consulting company.
