A Second Life for Charging Stations: How Does Refurbishing Work?

The smarter E Podcast Episode 159 | December 7, 2023 | Language: German

As part of the mobility transition, not only electric cars but also charging stations have undergone an impressive development. Some charging stations are already several years old and are no longer technically up to date. However, simply disposing of them would certainly not be sustainable. What is desirable, however, is a general overhaul and a second life for charging stations, as we have seen with batteries and laptops for some time now.

But how far along are such processes? How exactly does it work? And what challenges are there? We talk about this with Wolfram Cüppers, owner of LADEFIX.

Timeline:

  • 01:51 In which parameters do the earlier generations of charging stations differ from today's models?
  • 04:52 Overview of the general overhaul of charging stations: What does the market generally look like and how does the process work?
  • 10:42 What is the motivation behind the idea of refurbishing used fast-charging stations?
  • 17:20 What are the biggest challenges and hurdles and how were they overcome?
